Due to limited waste management infrastructure on the islands, plastic items often end up polluting the environment, harming wildlife, and degrading natural beauty. Much of the marine plastic debris in Raja Ampat originates from land-based sources, highlighting the importance of responsible waste practices by visitors.

Avoid purchasing bottled water. Instead, bring a reusable container for your drinking water. All homestays provide safe drinking water, allowing you to refill your bottle as needed.

The SEA People, known locally as Orang Laut Papua, is a field-based non-profit organization working to protect and restore the marine ecosystem of Raja Ampat, creating solutions that benefit both the local community and the ocean on which it depends.
The SEA People works hand-in-hand with community members, providing them with the skills and knowledge to manage and protect the local marine environment on their own.

One of the highlights of our West Gam Adventure is a visit to Child Aid Papua, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving education, healthcare, and opportunities for children and families living in remote villages across Raja Ampat.
During our visit, you'll have the opportunity to learn about their inspiring work, explore the learning center, and meet local staff. It's a meaningful stop that offers a deeper understanding of life in Papua beyond its incredible reefs and islands.
